... this is a pretty neat factory tour...
Chrysler has created a 'GoogleMaps'-like tour of their Sterling Heights Plant where the Chrysler 200 is produced. I haven't spent any appreciable time in _that_ plant, but several others... Volume production automobile plants are mind blowing places... In some plants, a shiny new car rolls off the line every 60 seconds. Think about that. Think about the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd tier suppliers that have been manufacturing parts and assemblies to get delivered just in time for assembly - thousands of parts. Some how they get put on the line and/or sequences for the operators to do their thing. Hundred of fasteners; gallons of glue, sealer and paint; thousands of spotwelds; thousands of pounds of steel, aluminum, and magnesium; and countless little details parts ... All of that work culminates in volume production at a rate of 60 cars an hour in some plants.

I got a bit desensitized to the magic that happens at the plants after working there for several years, but they are indeed neat places. Grab a beverage and take some time to stroll around the virtual plant tour.

It's really laggy right now... I think that the web traffic is overwhelming the server. Hopefully performance improves over the next several hours/days.
